Cheers To Camera Phones

On the rare occasions when my husband and I sneak away for a date night, I like to do something to capture that memory. My view is why should the kids be the only reason we take out the camera?

So, when we recently went out on a weeknight to celebrate our 14-year dating anniversary (yes, I will use any excuse to get out of the house), I definitely made my husband break out the camera phone. That being said, after a long day neither of us were feeling very photogenic, so we took a shot of the next best couple in the room.  The great part is that in seeing this picture, it is all I need to bring back the memories of an impromptu night out.

Photos can truly serve as the scrapbooks of our lives!

For the month of November my pointer just has to revolve around food, because if you are anything like me you spend the majority of your time perusing new recipes to add to your Thanksgiving line-up of treats.

To that end, my pointer does not focus on how to take a specific picture of food, but more on how a food picture can inspire you to try something new.  With the advent of sites like Pinterest there are endless ideas out there from all-out gourmet, to simple snacks and you just need to find the one that speaks to you.

It is amazing how something as basic as a cheese and crackers platter can suddenly amp up the holiday cheer.  Even better yet, so many of the images we find can easily be replicated with little helpers in the kitchen.  There is nothing better for me when my favorite trio gets together - food, fotos and family!

Snap Shots Of The Small Stuff

Planning parties can be a lot of fun...but that fun comes as a result of hard work. Quite often it is all the smallest of details that make the overall event a big success.

After putting in that time and effort, my best tip is to make sure you capture ALL the elements of your party.  Before guests arrive walk around the venue and take photographs of your decorations, your favors...even your food.  Since we know that the event will be over in a snap, you want to be able to look back and see how all the time you spent in advance of the big day translated into happy memories you can treasure forever.

Personally, I also like to remember all the people that work behind the scenes to make the event a special one.  I always pop in the kitchen or round everyone up for a group photo as the event is winding down.  The best part is seeing the pride they have in knowing they helped make your event picture perfect!

Take Some Taste-Tastic Shots

It goes without saying that Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for family and of course to take plenty of photographs of your loved ones.

However, do not ignore the main attraction...the bountiful table or buffet of family-favorite dishes.  While they may not look as if they were plated by a professional food-stylist, the food at this celebration is just as deserving of a photograph as the family member that helped make (or eat) it.

Down the line, those photographs coupled with a copy of the recipe could be turned into a wonderful family cookbook that would be a treasured keepsake or unique holiday present (they are right around the corner) for that foodie on your list.

Trust me when I say that a few food photos could be a recipe for future-gifting success!

I am not a photographer, nor do I pretend to be one.  However, I am an avid picture taker.  In fact, when I look back at my compilation of photos over the past 10+ years, they number somewhere north of 65,000 (and that is AFTER I deleted the bad ones!).  Through this time I have learned some lessons, tips and tricks and those are what I share with you below in an effort to help everyone capture more of those special memories!
